Community Champion Programme

The Community Champion Programme is a peer support group for ex-detainees, run by ex-detainees who train to become community champions and support each other within their communities.

The programme started in Plymouth in February 2018, Rochdale in June 2018, Middlesbrough in September 2018 and Uxbridge will start in 2019.

Each programme holds a fortnightly meeting in their different area of the UK. The programme is designed to raise awareness and support each other through establishing stronger local links with the communities.

The ex-detainee project adds to the work of other service providers in the regions and offers training and support to the community champions. Ultimately, this new people-led initiative will become self-sustaining and could be rolled out across the country.

If you are an ex-detainee, live in one of these areas and wish to be part of the new programme, or you are part of an organisation who would like to know more and become involved, please contact the Ex-Detainee project by email

ex-detainee@samphireproject.org.uk or call us on 01304 242755.
