Community Engagement Coordinator roles – Schools of Sanctuary Project and Dover Welcomes All, deadline Friday 27th July 2018

Two exciting opportunities have arisen with Samphire to build on the successful community engagement work that we have undertaken relating to migration, and take it to the next level!
The Community Engagement Coordinators will each be responsible for a distinct project – Schools of Sanctuary or Dover Welcomes All, though there is some overlap. The Schools of Sanctuary project builds on our work with local schools- myth-busting the damaging narratives that exist around migration and supporting them to embed a culture of welcome in their schools. The Dover Welcomes All project continues our work to empower new migrant communities to overcome barriers to community engagement, and provide positive opportunities for mixing with the settled population that value the cultures of both, contributing to a better informed, more culturally aware and cohesive Dover.
Both positions are for a fixed term of one year, with the possibility of extension contingent on securing funding. Samphire will consider combining the roles for the right person.

Community Engagement Coordinators x 2 (Dover-based)
NJC salary scale points 29-31, starting salary £25,951 p.a. pro rata
Part-time, 15 hours per week (for Schools Coordinator), 22.5 hours for Dover Welcomes All project
These roles involve engaging with the local community in a variety of ways, developing networks, managing and recruiting volunteers, undertaking awareness-raising activities including social and conventional media, contributing to policy and advocacy, monitoring and project planning.

  • The successful applicant will be educated to degree level OR have equivalent work experience;
  • They will be energetic, resourceful, self-motivated and an excellent communicator;
  • They will have at least 1 years’ experience working / volunteering / engaging in the voluntary sector in a related field – community development, social exclusion, migrants’ rights or similarly marginalised groups;
  • This post requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
