Samphire’s Legal Project

 Samphire’s Legal Project

Following Samphire’s registration with the Office of Immigration Services Commissioner in autumn 2018, in May 2019 Samphire launched its Legal Project. The project is delivered in cooperation with Dover and Deal District and Thanet Citizens Advice Bureaus. Since its inception the project has been connecting with a number with local and regional organisations and statutory institutions such as Dover District Council, Kent County Council, South East Strategic Partnership for Migration, Dover JobCentre Plus, OASIS etc.

After a local consultation we conducted in 2018, we have found a lack of knowledge and uncertainty with regards to post-Brexit immigration requirements, EU Settlement Scheme, possibilities to become British Citizens and compliance with immigration rules in general. We are the only pro-bono organisation in SE Kent providing immigration advice to local communities.  Our OISC registered adviser is a person with lived experience of migration herself and is therefore well placed to provide information and reassurance to people living locally.

We hold surgeries in Dover and Thanet Citizens Advice Bureaus, as well as at our office on Castle Street in Dover. If your community organisation would like to learn more about UK’s Immigration System in general, or more about a specific immigration route, we also deliver talks and workshops.

People can get advice on immigration matters falling under OISC Levels 1& 2. Unfortunately due to our registration level we cannot assist on appeals. Due to capacity and not having a legal aid contract we also do not do any substantive asylum work.

Please note we do not give immigration advice over the phone.  For more information, you can contact Indre on indre@samphireproject.org.uk.
